Katayama worked for many years with Takeshi Saji in Takefu and has since 2021 become 'independent' and now designs his own knives. One can clearly see the connection to his master's style, not least in the etching of the blades which have deep contrasts and a rustic structure. The blade itself consists of 32 layers of steel that enclose the core of stainless VG10 steel. The edge is impressively thin and the knife sits very well in the hand.
