Kanji | Hand-chiseled engraving
We now offer you the option to engrave your own Kanji on the knife you purchase.
The price refers to 1-3 Japanese characters, for example, 愛 which means love, or 日本 which means Japan. Or why not 配偶者 which means life partner.
(If you want to engrave more Kanji than that, please add extra engraving to your cart.)
Kanji is engraved with a traditional chisel and a small hammer, in the same way Japanese blacksmiths sign their handmade knives.
1. Enter 1-3 Kanji characters in the free text line.
Tip: jisho.org is a good place to search for Kanji. You choose the characters you want engraved. Then enter the character(s) you have selected.
Please contact us if you need help choosing characters.
2. Purchase the knife separately.
However, remember to choose a blade with 2 or more layers, as a softer cladding around the core steel is required for the chisel to make a clear mark. Knives with "single steel" or "mono steel" have blade sides that are too hard for hand engraving.
We do the engraving ourselves and therefore deliver just as quickly as with regular orders. By default, we engrave to the size shown in the product images. Of course, we can engrave larger or smaller if you have specific requests.
Knives on which we CANNOT engrave Kanji:
- Blades with a very uneven surface, such as hammer-forged blades or other textures that make it difficult to engrave evenly with a chisel.
- Knives with a single layer of steel, "Single steel"/"Mono steel," as a softer cladding around the core steel is required for the chisel to make a clear mark.
Engraved products do not have a right of return as long as the quality of the engraving meets professional standards.
