MAC Corporation was founded in 1964 by Tatsuo Kobayashi from Seki, Japan. Kobayashi used the razor blade as a model for his kitchen knife because it is thin, flexible, light, and sharp.
The name MAC stands for Molybdenum Alloy Carbon, which is the material from which the knife blade is made. The MAC knife is manufactured in Japan and is a combination of Western design and Japanese knife craftsmanship. MAC knives are hand-sharpened with a 10 to 15-degree sharpening angle by professional Japanese blacksmiths from the Seki area in Japan, an area with over 700 years of knife production behind it.
