The fine range starts around 2000 grit. It works well to start with if your edge is thin and fine, but it will be too slow for normally worn edges. It is excellent as a finishing stone, but you can, of course, polish the edge further if you are looking for more shine and sharpness.
The stone provides good feedback as it is relatively soft. This means it requires a lot of water and needs to soak in a water bath for about 10-15 minutes before sharpening. Because the stone is slightly softer compared to, for example, Shapton, it relatively quickly generates "slurry" (sharpening paste) which facilitates the sharpening process, especially if you are sharpening the blade sides and want a homogeneously covering kasumi finish.
KING DELUXE is a synthetic wet stone (whetstone) manufactured by Matsunaga Stone (Japan) under the King brand. The series is aimed at craftsmen, knife enthusiasts, and professionals looking for an affordable sharpening stone with good performance.
